HIGH JANUARY: BECAUSE “DRY” ISN’T THE ONLY WAY FORWARD

Every January, the internet floods with talk of Dry January—no drinks, no fun, white-knuckling your way through winter. And while we love a reset as much as the next person, this year we’re doing things a little differently.

Welcome to High January

Instead of quitting cannabis cold turkey, Steven and I are cutting way back on smoking flower and leaning into an edibles-first experience. It’s about being more intentional, easier on our lungs, and still enjoying the ritual—just with a little less smoke and a lot more mindfulness.

If you’ve been thinking about cutting back (or even quitting) smoking in the new year, here’s how we’re approaching it—and how you can, too.

Why We’re Going Edibles-First

Smoking flower has its place, but over time it’s easy to fall into autopilot: packing bowls out of habit, lighting joints just because they’re there, or vaping without even checking in with how you’re feeling.

Edibles slow things down.

They encourage intentional dosing, longer-lasting effects, and fewer “just one more” moments. For us, High January is about choosing how we consume, not cutting out cannabis entirely.

Tips for Cutting Back (Without Beating Yourself Up)

1. Set a Date (and Make It Real)

Decide when you want to start cutting back or quitting smoking altogether. Put it on your calendar. Whether it’s January 1 or a random Tuesday, having a clear start date makes it feel doable—and official.

2. Identify Your Daily Intake

Before you change anything, take a few days to notice your habits:

  • How many joints?

  • How many bong rips?

  • How often are you reaching for the vape?

You don’t need to judge it—just know it. Awareness is the first step to change.

3. Stock Up on Edibles

If your goal is to smoke less, having edibles on hand is key. Think of them as your go-to replacement, not a backup plan.

💡 Medical patients: You also have access to more potent options, which can make swapping even easier with fewer servings.

4. Swap 1–2 Daily Smoke Sessions for Edibles

You don’t have to overhaul everything at once. Start small:

  • Replace your after-work joint with an edible

  • Skip the late-night bong rip and opt for a gummy instead

Even swapping one or two sessions a day can make a noticeable difference.

5. Use Less When You Do Smoke

If you’re still smoking occasionally (same), try:

  • Shorter joint cones

  • Packing smaller bowls

  • Using less flower per session

You might be surprised how little you actually need when you’re being intentional.

6. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

This is a big one. You don’t need to be flawless to be successful.

Cut back one day? Win.
Smoked less than usual? Win.
Chose an edible instead of lighting up? Huge win.

Progress counts—even when it’s messy.

High January, Your Way

High January isn’t about rules or restrictions. It’s about finding a healthier, more mindful relationship with cannabis—one that works for you.

Whether you’re cutting back, switching things up, or just curious about an edibles-first lifestyle, remember:
You’ve got this. And we’re cheering you on every step of the way.

Happy High January 💫
